One of the 10 Primal Blueprint "Laws" is Avoid Poisonous Things. While we mostly focus on avoiding the chemically altered oils and processed foods rampant in the Standard American Diet, its important to remember the 'poisons' lurking in common products we use on a daily bases.
To reduce the use of chemicals in my home, I pretty much stopped using most household cleaners. I have three homemade recipes that I have used for years and I love them. Not only do they take minutes to throw together, they are so inexpensive! I've shared them below.
These are my go-to store bought cleaners:
Bar Keeper's Friend, is what I use on my stainless steel pans, my counters, and my porcelain sinks. It's got some irritants in it, but it doesn't bother my skin and I love it.
I use vinegar for my fabric softener and these dryer balls.
I use this cloth for my windows and mirrors.
ALL PURPOSE CLEANER
1 tablespoon Borax
1 tablespoon dish soap
3 tablespoons vinegar
2 cups water
Fill a spray bottle with two cups of water. Then add the rest of the ingredients and shake.
I use this to clean my kitchen counters, my bathrooms, spots on the floor...anything!
AUTOMATIC DISHWASHER DETERGENT
2 cups Borax
2 cups Super Washing Soda
Mix together and store in a container. I use one 2 tablespoon scoop per load of dishes.
LAUNDRY DETERGENT
5 gallon bucket
1/2 cup Super Washing Soda
1/2 cup Borax
1/2 a bar of soap
Grate your whole bar of soap in your food processor. Save half of it for another batch (I put mine in a ziplock bag). In a saucepan, pour 2 cups of water and add your grated soap. Put it on the stove, on low, and stir until melted.
Fill the 5 gallon bucket with hot water and add the melted soap, Borax, and Washing Soda (and essential oils if using). Stir and cover over night.
Stir it again, and then pour it into a smaller laundry detergent container for everyday use.
What types or brands of cleaners do you use in your home?
